Patent Paper B1

TITLE: High Speed Reference Level Adjuster
INVENTOR: Arlon Ryan Staywell
PART THIS PAGE: Specification a) through g)

SPECIFICATION

  1.     Title, High Speed Reference Level Adjuster
  2.     Cross References, This invention is not related to the Anamagnetic Reactance Device in another application.
  3.     Federal sponsorship, no federal money was ever paid at any time for research of any kind to the applicant.
  4.     Field and Prior Art
    1.     Field of invention, the invention is used in the fields of communications and numerical controls. It is used on amplifiers.
    2.     Description of prior art, there are many and various reference level adjustment techniques for the purpose of power conservation, this invention has more speed, clarity, and range.
  5.     Summary, the invention is a circuit configuration of a series of parallel resistive capacitive groups serving as bias and input point to an amplifier. It accomplishes adjustment of the reference level of the amplifier so that low level input signals have a low reference level, conserving power. Adjustments to the range are possible, enabling a choice between various degrees of power conservation and clarity.
  6.     Brief Description of the Drawings, figure 1 shows the basic circuit without embellishments which are explained without the necessity of drawing. Figure 2 shows how the technique of distortion elimination using a differential amplifier is applied.
  7.     Explanation of the drawings, note in figure 1 that the circuit may be used with NPN, PNP, other transistor types, and various vacuum tube amplifiers. Strictly voltage sensitive amplifiers that permit no bias current through the amplifier require the additional bias resistor R(W) which is otherwise optional. The central broken lines indicate that not all RC groups are depicted, the actual number of groups will depend on a variety of circuit parameters and can be made adjustable by switches across one or more groups. Ordinarily R(1)=R(2)= ... =R(K) and C(l)=C(2)= ... =C(K). Although the generic symbol for capacitors is used here, electrolytic or polarized capacitors may be used. Their polarity will depend on the type of amplifier and power supply. Note in figure 2 that the size of the correction wave generator may be smaller since the duty time is much shorter.
